Wilbert Sebron Grant, born and raised in Chicago, learned to draw at a very early age from the “funny papers”. Ge has always been involved in art in one form or another.
In grammar school he was always on call by the other teachers to decorate their bulletin boards. In high school he excelled very rapidly and soon ran out of art-related classes to take, so he took drafting courses because it involved drawing. Even in the Marine Corps he was constantly in demand - drawing the Marins Corps’ mascot or drawing for the D.I.s at his base. He also drew portraits of many of his fellow Marines’ wives so they wouldn’t be so lonely.
He took the Famous Artists course during his stay in the Marines. He attended the Art Institute of Chicago, The American Academy Of Art, Olive Harvey Junior College and Chicago State University. He has exhibited at the Federal Building, South Shore Cultural Center, South Shore Bank, Seaway National Bank, Woodson Library, Brickyard Mall, Annie Lee’s Gallery, Colors Gallery in Gary, Indiana. BAGIT, DuSable Museum, Museum of Science and Industry, Department of Corrections, University of Chicago, Phesant Run Inn in St. Charles, IL, and Ford Motor Company.
