Shipping FAQ
1. How much does it cost to ship my item?
That solely depends on what it is, what size, and where it's going!
What - is it canvas or paper? Is it framed or unframed? This will determine how it will be packaged.
Size - Is this a little 8x10 or a 30x40? This will determine not only the weight but the carrier we use!
Where - Is this being shipped down the street or across seas?
Shipping charges can cost anywhere between $30 to $300 depending on all of these factors. Large items shipping somewhere in the midwest can be cheaper than shipping a small item to the western states. There are multiple factors and variations when it comes to shipping. We use several shipping carriers as their rates vary between sizes and regions. We always try to give you the best price possible!
2. When does my item need to be crated?
over 95% of our shipments do not need to be crated, however there are multiple factors that will determine if your item needs to be crated!
- Personal preference: some people prefer crating because it's a safer option and will guarantee no damage occurs to their item. While it is mostly rare for any severe damage to occur through the shipping process, crating will 100% guarantee the safety of the item. However it does come with a cost!
- Glassed items. We always ALWAYS recommend to ship items with an acrylic facing. But if there is a specific reason glass is needed, we will recommend crating.
However - glass is extremely fragile, and even with a crate we cannot guarantee the safety of the piece. You will have a better chance of it getting to its destination safely as opposed to cardboard, but the cheaper and more viable option is opting for acrylic glass on your item!
- extremely large items. Any large assembled frames and pieces of artwork MUST be crated. Any other way will not be accepted through the shipper. These items tend to be shipped freight.
- large international shipments - any standard size that is not considered oversized will typically ship fine in cardboard
3. What is considered oversized?
It depends on the shipper. But a general rule of thumb is a 24x36 canvas with a 4" frame is probably the extent of a standard size box! Anything larger will be oversized. Larger than that will be a freight shipment
4. How do you package the artwork?
After wrapping the piece in protective foam, we use multiple layers of cardboard, shrink-wrap and custom fitted pieces to essentially "suspend" the piece within the box. So if the box is dropped or the corner is dinged, the piece is protected, as it is not right up against the edge.
5. Can I bring in my non art items to be shipped?
Our shipping service is only available for framing and artwork only. However, we do sell individual boxes if you have an item that fits those dimensions.
6. What carrier do you use?
Our primary shipping account is with UPS. For small items, PO Box items, international and close US region items we typically use USPS (post office) for better rates and convenience. For applicable midwest addresses we use SpeeDee Delivery services.
